Why Numbat?

Why Numbat?

A Name With a Purpose

When we created our brand, we were not simply looking for a name.

We were looking for a symbol.

We found it in one of the world's rarest and most remarkable animals—the Numbat.

Native to Australia, the numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus) is an endangered marsupial whose survival depends on the protection of its natural habitat. Small, distinctive, and resilient, it reminds us that even the most remarkable species can disappear if they are not cared for.

That message resonated deeply with us.

From the beginning, House of Numbat was built on the belief that fashion should respect both people and the natural world.

Long before sustainability became a marketing trend, we chose to work with natural fibres, responsible manufacturing, and recycled materials. Our collections have always been developed in limited quantities, encouraging thoughtful production rather than unnecessary waste.

For Numbat Fashion, we focus on natural materials and timeless garments designed to be worn for many years.

For Numbat Sport, we have explored innovative recycled performance fabrics such as ECONYL®, demonstrating that technical sportswear can also contribute to a more responsible future.

To us, the numbat represents more than an endangered animal.

It represents resilience.

Respect for nature.

Thoughtful creation.

And the belief that what is rare and valuable deserves protection.

As House of Numbat has grown beyond fashion into books, art, publishing, research, and the Veronika Guardi Archive, the meaning of the name has grown with it.

Today, the numbat continues to remind us that creativity also carries responsibility.

Not only to make beautiful things, but to leave something worthwhile for future generations.

Supporting Awareness

House of Numbat proudly supports awareness of the endangered numbat and the importance of wildlife conservation.

We hope that by sharing its story, more people will discover this extraordinary animal and the work being done to protect it.
